Why Windows PCs need central management
Without management, every Windows PC is a little different: some encrypted, some not, some months behind on updates, some with local admin rights that let anyone install anything. That is hard to secure and harder to prove to an insurer.
The old answer was an on-site server with Active Directory and Group Policy. For remote and hybrid teams, Intune does the same job from the cloud, whether the laptop is in the office, at home or on the road.
Windows Autopilot: zero-touch setup
PCs bought from a business reseller can be registered to your company with Autopilot. When an employee turns one on and signs in with their work account, Windows joins your Microsoft Entra ID, enrolls in Intune and installs everything it needs. No one from IT has to touch the machine, and a PC that is reset goes straight back to your setup.
What Intune manages day to day
Once PCs are enrolled, Intune handles:
- BitLocker encryption, with recovery keys stored in your Microsoft tenant.
- Windows and Microsoft 365 app updates in rings, testing on a few PCs first.
- Security baselines, firewall and Defender settings.
- Removing local admin rights while still letting staff install approved apps.
- Wi-Fi, VPN and printer settings.
- Compliance checks so only healthy, managed PCs reach company email and files.
- Remote wipe or reset when a laptop is lost or someone leaves.
Do you already have Intune?
If your business uses Microsoft 365 Business Premium, Intune is already included. Business Standard and Basic do not include it. We check your licensing first, and if you are already paying for Intune, getting your PCs managed is mainly setup work.
